I love writing about money and how we can make smarter money decisions. The New York Times calls my personal finance guide for moms, "Smart Mom, Rich Mom," "solid" and "witty" and Foreword Reviews says it brings out the "fun" in "funds." Publishers Weekly calls it an "excellent book" and " invaluable resource" that "does much more than fill a niche; it bridges a huge gap."
My previous book, The Economy of You: Discover Your Inner Entrepreneur and Recession-Proof Your Life (January 2014, AMACOM), tells the stories of 100 successful side-giggers who built financial security by launching side-businesses. (I also share the story of my own Etsy shop of money planners.) I was the senior money editor at US News & World Report for nine years and a money features editor at AARP. I am also the author of Generation Earn: The Young Professional’s Guide to Spending, Investing, and Giving Back. I am excited to now be a writer at NerdWallet, where the mission is to provide clarity for all of life's financial decisions. Be sure to checkout NerdWallet.com for my latest articles! I also host the NerdWallet Smart Money Book Club where we read and discuss books with a money element to them.
I live with my family in the Washington, D.C. area.
